Valsena. Kingdom of the Plains (translated as Grasslands Kingdom Forcena in the fan translation) is a location in Heroes of Mana and Trials of Mana. It is populated predominantly by humans and has a mild climate. Its inhabitants are famous for their swordsmanship.
Story[]
Valsena has a long history of producing Knights who periodically embark on dragon exterminations to cull dragon populations in order that the dragons do not cause a threat in numbers to the world. They had long been allied with the Kingdom of Altena.
Trials of Mana[]
Opening - Duran[]
Duran, an aspiring swordsman, is the son of Loki, the famed Golden Knight. He trains as a castle guardsman and competes in the kingdom's sword mastery tournament in hopss of following in his father's footsteps. He was raised alongside his sister Wendy by his aunt Stella after his mother passed from a severe illness, never knowing what became of Loki when he suddenly vanished from their lives.
Duran is set against his best friend and sparring partner Bruiser in the first round and defeats his opponent handily. Later that night, however, Duran is on guard duty when a mysterious man in red from Altena breaches the castle walls. Duran challenges the invader and is nearly killed by powerful magic before the assailant reaches the throne room and pressures the king into surrendering the region's Mana Stone. The king refuses, and is about to be killed; but Duran arrives just in time to stop the execution. Nevertheless, Duran views his actions as a failure; his weakness endangered his king. Thus, he resolves to become stronger. When he returns to meet the king the next day, Duran is advised to head for Holy City Wendel to change his class.
