Etymology[]
Valkyries originate from Nordic folklore, wherein they are minor goddesses believed to be the choosers of the slain worthy to fight for the gods. The Æsir were the master gods of the same Nordic myths, and included such deities as Thor, Frigg, and Odin, among others.
