“An imposing frog that reigns over Castle Cresceno. It can wax and wane into a myriad of phases and spews out star-spawn in battle. It glides gracefully through the air when it assumes its full moon form. If gazed upon directly in such a state, the Benevodon could easily be mistaken for the real thing.”
—Bestiary entry
Tor Marne is the new Benevodon of the Moon replacing Dolan, who serves as a boss in Visions of Mana. It looks like a gigantic toad with powers over illusions, insanity, and time, driving people mad by its very presence and trapping souls in echoes of the past.
Role in the Story[]
Tor Marne is the last seen of the Benevodons attacking the Mana Sanctuary. They are repelled by the Barrier protecting it, due to three of them having already been slain. It is later fought in Castle Cresceno , as it is messing with the minds of everyone near the ruins of the city of Etaern, including the heroes as they reach it to destroy it.
Boss Battle[]
Tor Marne's level depends on how many Benevodons were slain before it. Level 35 if fought after the first mandatory three, 38, 40, or 43 if second-to-last. It jumps around, jumps and inflates itself to crush the heroes, inflates itself to charge or attack with its tongue, leaving itself open for a counter-attack. The heroes can even grapple its tongue with the Shadow Relic to deal damage. Beware for it spits glowing stars all over, causing spheres that greatly slow down the heroes who get caught in one.
It resists Moon but is vulnerable to Wood, so spells and element-infused weapons are advised. When it inflates itself into a ball and starts floating, it litters the arena with time-slowing spheres. When near-death, it becomes faster and harder to catch up with, starts breathing a yellow mist, and must be pummeled it is floating and glowing, lest it unleashes a powerful blast.
