Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), previously known as Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), is a division of the larger Sony Corporation, a Japanese multinational electronics manufacturer and media content provider. Founded circa 1993 in Tokyo, Japan, SIE's primary focus has been the PlayStation family of video game hardware and software services.

While Sony has not had any involvement in the Mana series apart from licensing the games for use on its consoles, it was approached by and entered into an exclusive deal with Squaresoft to publish its titles on the original PlayStation. 1997's Final Fantasy VII was among the first games to be published as part of the collaboration, which ended before the year 2000.
