The Skullslicer is one of four ultimate gloves found in Trials of Mana. They are the ultimate weapon for Kevin should he undertake the Dark-Light job class path of the Grappler, the Fatal Fist.
Appearance[]
The Skull Dissect is an airy ghoulish looking weapon, being a clawed glove with a skull motif on the back of the hand, and a cape of silver chain mail, with a silver metal wristband used to hold the wearer's wrist in place with the glove. The claws of the glove are further composed of a silver plate that fits over the initial joint of each finger, while its nails are opaque pitch black extended narrow rounded talons that taper into an anatomically shaped sharp point. According to Kevin's Death Hand artwork, the design of the weapon implies that the nails of the claws are to fit by the user's fingernails fitting into them, making them more precise and articulate to use.
Description[]
The ultimate weapon of the Death Hand. Witnessed to motion alone as if the claws have a life of their own, this glove is believed to be a horrific weapon that even its wielders must take caution of, as wearing it allegedly exposes the user to its demonic influence that can drive anyone lesser to frenzied insanity. The pitch black finger claws that not even light dares to reflect off of are implements meant for the grisly purpose of piercing and wrenching at the skull to rip and tear at the brains of its victims.
Allusions and symbolism[]
The Skullslicer bears resemblance to the gloved claw of the horror antagonist Freddy Kruger of the Nightmare On Elm Street series. In line with Trials of Mana's adolescence themes, parental abuse in Kevin's backstory, and the Fatal Fist's themes of anger and hate, Freddy was said by his actor Robert Englund to be representative of neglect and abuse of children, which were the things that spurred Freddy when he was alive to become a serial killer.
Other inspirations may include the poison tipped claws wielded by Devadatta, the mutinous disciple of the Buddha, who tried to kill him with them upon being arrested and confronted for his wrongdoings before being sent to hell.
