Wiki of Mana

The Shimmering Ruins (called the Ancient Ruins of Light in the fan translation) is a dungeon in Trials of Mana. It is the sanctuary of Mana Stone of Light and, later, the lair of Lightgazer, the Benevodon of Light.

Like Gemstone Valley Daria and the Woods of Wandara, it is inaccessible without the Flammie Drum.

According to an elderly man in Wendel, the Shimmering Ruins is a legendary place constructed in honor of the Mana Goddess, as it is believed that the Goddess had made her first steps into Fa'Diel upon her descent onto its grounds after the creation of the world.

Trivia[]

  • Although the Shimmering Ruins would seem to be a protected and holy place, its abandonment and earthly nature is suggestive of philosophical and spiritual concepts related to how divine presence from a creator would be inherent to all things than just one place, that ritual without intrinsic insight and meaning is but empty zeal and vanity, and how focus of religion's power and attraction than piety and religiosity by applied faith, compassion, and understanding of life leads into materialism and idolatry. This is exemplified with how at the Shimmering Ruins, the footfalls of the Mana Goddess are praised more than the Mana Goddess and her creations themselves.
