Goremand meeting with the King of Ferolia for the first time

Goremand meeting with the King of Ferolia for the first time

Beastmen were forced to seclude themselves deep into Duskmoon Forest after being persecuted by humans. Only one managed to stand up against the oppression. He became king and founded the Kingdom of Ferolia with his fellow beastmen, and they waited for an opportunity to get revenge on the humans who drove them into hiding. One night, a mysterious jester called Goremand visited the King and tried persuading the mighty beastman to wage a war against humans. Incredulous at first, Gauser, the King of Ferolia, tried to dismiss the peculiar creature, but hearing that Goremand was proficient with the dark arts gave the King an idea and ultimately gave the jester a chance. Meanwhile in Duskmoon Forest, Kevin is seen lying down with his best friend Karl, a young wolf pup. Kevin is the only son of Ferolia's King.

As a half-blood child, his human mother abandoned him in the forest and was shortly after found by the beastmen. The young prince had a particularly militaristic upbringing since he was trained to be his father's successor, leaving very little time for friendships. One night, Kevin stumbled upon a dead she-wolf and her living pup, Karl. They soon bonded over their mutual predicament and became best friends. After a short nap, Kevin is woken up by his furry friend. The young prince is amused at the fact that Karl is acting like a dog instead of a wolf. This reminds the young prince of how they are both alike since they don't fit their upbringing and the fact they don't have a mom. After returning to the castle, Karl starts convulsing and acting weird, making Kevin worry.

The pup suddenly turns aggressive towards Kevin. After pleading for the young wolf to stop attacking, Kevin is forced to transform into a werewolf and deals a mortal blow to Karl. After regaining consciousness and his initial appearance, Kevin sees the little pup lying lifeless on the ground and realizes what he's done. Distressed and deeply saddened by his acts, the young prince erects a small makeshift tombstone near a familiar flower patch for his departed companion. Crushed by guilt, Kevin wandered aimlessly in the forest, eventually returning to the castle. Seeking answers about his mysterious transformation, Kevin looks for the King of Ferolia.

During his search, he stumbles on a beastman meeting where his rival Ludgar declares that Ferolia will invade human settlements and that their first target is the Holy City Wendel. Upon talking to Ludgar, Kevin learns that a beastmen troop will be first sent to Jadd Stronghold, then to Wendel. Atop the castle walls, the young prince overhears a conversation between Goremand and the King of Ferolia. The latter is impressed by how easy it was for the dark jester to manipulate Karl and Kevin to battle each other. Gauser reveals that he wanted the young prince to sever any emotional ties that would interfere with his training. This realization ignites Kevin's beastman fury and he breaks the wall separating him from the two beings.

As Kevin confronts Gauser and Goremand for their evil deeds, Gauser seems pleased by the blossoming hatred that seeps from his son's heart, as this would indicate his beastman's power coming to full fruition. Blinded by rage, Kevin foolishly runs towards the King of Ferolia to administer a taste of his strength, but is easily defeated by his father's own might, sending him flying outside the castle walls. The King then entrusts Goremand to chase after Kevin before retreating into his castle.

Kevin awakes from his fall and makes his way back to the castle. Before reaching it, he encounters the dark jester who quivers in fear. When Kevin successfully traps Goremand in a corner, Goremand suggests that Kevin could bring Karl back to life by asking the Priest of Light in Wendel. The mysterious jester explains that since Ferolian forces are on their way to Wendel, Kevin must hurry to demand an audience with the Priest.

He then opens a path with his scythe to the neighboring town of Mintas. Having no choice but to trust Goremand, the young prince moves towards the newly revealed path and makes haste to reach his next destination in hopes of reuniting with his beloved friend and even perhaps meeting his mother on the way. Instead of taking a ferry, Kevin swims across the sea to reach the city of Jadd. During his travels, Kevin glances at the sky to see Ludgar leading his troop of beastmen carried by giant eagles towards Jadd.
