For the antagonist of the same name in Final Fantasy Adventure and Adventures of Mana, see Julius (Adventures of Mana).

Julius is a major antagonist in Sword of Mana.

Julius is a powerful user of Dark-elemental magic. He occupies a high spot in Dark Lord's empire and is implied to be the power behind the throne.

Appearance[]

His appearance is of a red-haired man in purple and blue robes with a purple cape and sandals.

Story[]

Although Julius and Dark Lord work together and are close friends, their goals differ. While Dark Lord seeks power and revenge, Julius has designs of his own, with a great interest in Mana power.

After Dark Lord's death, It's revealed by Cibba leader of the Gemma Knights that Julius is Emperor Vandole himself with a later implication from Julius's Shadow that the Shadow is the Vandole slain by the 3 Gemma Knights years ago.

Like the Julius of Final Fantasy Adventure, Vandole seeks to marry the Heroine of his world though can't explain why he is interested in the women of the Mana Tribe despite lamenting their dislike of him.

Following his defeat, he proclaims that he'll always exist as long as Mana itself does.

Personality[]

Julius, or Vandole, from Sword of Mana is a sadist and a torturer who sees himself as a God even before draining the Mana Tree. Although he doesn't appear to share Dark Lord's sincere disagreement with the Mana people's worldview, Julius appears to delight in putting the heroes in perilous ethical situations. When Medusa is killed, he taunts the Hero and Heroine, saying they are no better than him.

He also seems curious as to why the Mana Tribe left the Mana Power unguarded until he seized the power himself and likes to gloat about pulling off his Dark Age known as the Vandole Empire so easily.

Furthermore he mocks Devius's suicide and is revealed by Dark Lord to be forcing both him and Dark Lord to act the way they did against their will with only their respective suicides(with Dark Lord's being a suicide attack against the Hero) serving as an act of rebellion against the Emperor's schemes.

Boss[]

In Sword of Mana, the player battles Julius a total of three times.
