The Jackal is the very first boss in Final Fantasy Adventure, as well as in Adventures of Mana. It is a large bipedal feline creature owned by the Dark Lord.

Story

The story begins with Sumo, a gladiator in the service of the Duchy of Glaive, forced to fight the beast one-on-one. Many such gladiators fight monsters every day, purely for the entertainment of the ruler known as Dark Lord. The gladiators make plans to escape on one particular day; but one among them, Will, is dying from brutal wounds. Before he passes on, Will tells his friend Sumo that the power of mana is in danger and that he must meet with a man named Bogard to learn more of the crisis. Another gladiator has found a path out of the castle through the monsters' entrance in the arena. Sumo makes his way to the arena once more as a second jackal is released. Sumo defeats this monster, then makes his exit through the barred gate.

Battle

Strategy

Both versions have Sumo launching into this battle at or near the start of the story. The Jackal runs a simple "W" movement pattern in the original version, or charging toward Sumo's location in the remake while slashing its claws to attack. The player should find an opening and strike at every opportunity. This battle repeats, but the strategy does not change.
