Instruments are a class of equipment in Legend of Mana, including Harps, Marimbas, Flutes, and Drums. They serve multiple purposes in the game.
Instruments can be created with a Primary Material and an Elemental Coin received from an Elemental Spirit. Each combination of material type, instrument type, and specific Coin produces a different spell that can be equipped in the player's ability slots.
Instruments are also used to entice Elemental Spirits encountered in dungeons to approach the player so they can be caught and made to give up one or more Coins. Upon finding one or more Spirits, the player is given the option to play a song and may choose between Cheerful, Sorrowful, Mysterious, and Serene. The player is then prompted to play either melody or harmony on that instrument. The instrument will be placed on the field and begin playing itself. Up to 8 instruments may be put into use - enough for one of each instrument to be playing both melody and harmony if the player has enough available. If the Spirit likes the result, they will approach. If they dislike the result, they will retreat. The effect is stronger the more instruments in play.
Instruments, along with weapons and armor, can be used to create Logic Blocks for programming Golems.
