The Ebon Knight is a a major villain in Echoes of Mana. He is mysterious armoured figure created by the False Goddess Dema, who tracks down Quilto/Quilta in their quest to restore the Mana Multiverse.
Characteristics[]
A supreme swordsman wielding enormous magic powers, the Ebon Knight is an extremely powerful warrior. He can travel through words and summon monsters from dark portals, unleash a dark-purple energy and dark lightning for deadly attacks, and alter his suit of armour as he pleases, growing wings or turning into a gigantic and formidable centaur-like monster.
He is silent, determined and relentless, hunting his preys without respite. While he regards himself as the real Mana Swordsman, scorning the heroes as pretenders, his true motivations remain mysterious.
Diospyros, the real Knight.
While the Ebon Knight first appears to be Dema's enforcer, he is in fact the manifestation of her repressed guilt and shame. He was trying to stop the heroes because they were unknowingly working for Dema, while believing to restore the Multiverse.
Whether he believed them to be willing agents or was ready for the worst to prevent Dema from seizing the Goddess' throne remains unclear though.
Role in the Story[]
After Quilto/Quilta ventures into the village of Pinzton, their guide Baashear is abducted by monsters. They save him helped by the girl warrior Duffle and the mage Honeycomb, but the Knight teleports before them and wordlessly attacks. He resists all their attacks and knocks down Quilto/Quilta with a purple beam from his sword. The heroes try to flee but he teleports before them all the time. So Baashear brings them back to the Mana Sanctuary.
Attacking Flammie.
He later reappears, now winged, as Quilto/Quilta is riding with Riesz and Hawkeye atop the White Dragon Flammie. However, the heroes defeat him and force him to flee.
The Ebon Knight returns after the heroes defeat Julius, seizing Quilto/Quilta and bringing them to his Dark Realm where he sics monsters against them. Echoes of their friends reaching to them throughout the echoes, help them conjure the Sword of Mana.

The Knight finally confronts them, unleashing his full might to transform into a powerful centaur-like monster, but to no avail.
It is only after Dema unveils her treachery and usurps the throne of the Goddess that the heroes meet the real Goddess, Nona, and her childhood friend Diospyros, the inspiration for the Ebon Knight.
After saving Jinn from Gossamare, the heroes and Diospyros meet the Ebon Knight. He explains his origins and motivation before letting himself get absorbed within Diospyros, trusting him to save Dema from herself.
After Dema is defeated and freed from Anise's blight, Diospyros brings her to the Mana Sanctuary where Nona is waiting for them.
Boss Battles[]
The Ebon Knight is very powerful, but not that hard to defeat. His sword strikes send huge waves of purple dark energy along the ground, or crescent-shaped dark energy waves, dealing big damage. He is weak to Light Magic. The battle stops after a few attacks.
The second battle unfolds the same way, but the Ebon Knight is much tougher. He can uleash his wings for very powerful attacks. He must be harrassed by every hero in the party, especially when he is channelling power, to knock him out and make him vulnerable.
For the third battle, the Ebon Knight transforms his armour into a gigantic armoured centaur. He is mightier and sturdier than ever, and his attacks deal heavy damage to every hero, making the battle very challenging. The party must attack relentlessly with their mightiest moves, while keeping an eye on their life-points.
Playable Character[]

The Ebon Knight can be unlocked as a playable character, but only to serve in the party during battles, without incidence to the plot. He is a Dark-attribute enemy with powerful offence and defence, who can teleport and fights with his sword and special techniques.
