Dema is the primary villainess of the medley mobile game Echoes of Mana. She is the older twin sister of the Mana Goddess Nona, who seeks to usurp her and rewrite every world and continuity following her designs.
Powers and Abilities[]
Despite not being the Goddess, Dema wields enormous powers, being able to create her own Tree of Mana, albeit much smaller and less imposing than the real one at peak condition.
She can also travel between worlds and continuities (in fact various games of the franchise), and to give life to sentient beings infused with her essence.
As the Goddess, Dema becomes able to warp realities in both real worlds and their echoes, based on memories of people who lived there. She can create her own Golden Mana Tree and spread its roots throughout the multiverse, destroying all worlds they reach to boost her power. When she merges with it, she assumes her ultimate form and her power is boosted tenfold.
Personality[]
Dema used to be sweet, caring and very protective of her sister. However, she was a bit controlling and had difficulties voicing her torments as well as taking other's feelings into account. She was very proud of her role as the new incarnation of the Mana Goddess, hence her envy when Nona was eventually chosen in her stead.
She is perfectly courteous and cordial, not bearing ill will towards the heroes and being gentle to her servants. More importantly, she is adamant that her goal to rewrite the entire multiverse is for the good of everyone. Still, she is more inflexible and controlling than ever, unable to process that people's vision could differ from her own. As such, she would stop at nothing to enact her ideal, reasoning that she would be able to undo any casualty.
She is very manipulative and a talented liar, knowing what button to push to have people do what she needs, and select what truth she tells them to sway them without needing to lie.
Background[]
Dema and Nona, twin sisters, future goddesses.
Dema and her younger twin sister Nona were born in the Mana Clan, the protectors of the Tree of Mana. Alas, this was the time when a young woman of the clan had to merge with the withering Tree to bloom it anew, becoming the new incarnation of the Mana Goddess.
Dema was initially chosen for the role, which she accepted without apparent worry, while she was in fact afraid to disappear. But since Nona was praying that her sister could be relieved, the Tree ultimately chose her instead.
Anise, tempting Dema.
Dema secluded herself, and fell victim of Anise's tantalizing words. She accepted the powers from Mavolia she was offered and followed her suggestion to usurp her sister and rewrite the multiverse.
She spent ten years preparing her goal, until Anise provided her with a devastated world to reshape as her Sanctuary, and two amnesiac survivors whom she gave each the half of one stolen soul. With that, Dema had what it needed to enact her extremist ideals.
Role in the Story[]
The game begins when the hero awakes in the last Mana Sanctuary in the multiverse. The Mana Goddess herself tasks them to travel through the echoes of various worlds (games of the series) to restore them all. With the guide created by the goddess called Baashear by their side, they befriend various young warriors and heroes from the previous games, but are tracked down by the mysterious Ebon Knight.
Dema's Golden Mana Tree.
It is only after they defeat the knight and gain the Sword of Mana that Dema unveils her hand. The hero needs to stab the Goddess with the Sword of Mana to regrow the Tree of Mana anew, but this was not the Goddess.
This was in fact Dema masquerading as her sister, who sent the hero on their quest to usurp the throne of the Goddess. Dema spreads her Golden Tree across the multiverse, threatening them all. While the hero is brought to the real Goddess by the fairy Mousseline, Dema names the hero's twin as her Mana Swordsman, still pretending to be the real one to sway them, granting them another guide named Ramy.
The hero keeps travelling through echoes of worlds, this time to destroy the roots of Dema's Tree whenever they appear with the Sword of Mana. They also save the Mana Spirits from being devoured by Gossamare.
Dema's nightmarish ultimate form.
The hero finally reach Dema's Sanctuary, defeating the monsters Ramy pits against them, as well as their own twin, who attacks them in order to become whole. Fortunately, they recognizes their twin as the true hero once beaten and relinquish their Mana Sword to make that of the hero complete.
Unfortunately, Dema refuses to listen to reason, leaving them no choice but to defeat her. With Dema defeated and freed from corruption, she is brought back to the Sanctuary to reunite and reconcile with her sister.
