The God-Beasts (Benevdons in the original) are eight powerful elemental monsters that appear as bosses in Seiken Densetsu 3.
Background
The God-Beasts existed before the world fully formed, and rampaged across until the Goddess of Mana defeated them with the Sword of Mana. After this they were each imprisoned in eight Mana Stones to keep them from threatening the world. However, their actions were apparently known the people, and there those would try to release them and take their power.
Release and Death
After the main character in Seiken Densetsu 3 gains the Sword of Mana, their primary enemies kidnap that hero's faerie and trade her for the sword, after which they use it to release the eight God-Beasts from the Mana Stones. They newly freed God-Beasts then rampaged across the world, until the heroes defeated them all one by one. The player has the option of the fighting the first seven in whatever order they wish, but after one is killed, because the God-Beasts were gradually growing stronger the others will become more powerful by the time they're fought. After they first seven are killed, the last one, the heroes face and kill Zable Fahr, the God-Beast of Darkness. However, killing the God-Beasts plays right into the hands of the main villain, because killing them sends their power to the Sword of Mana.
