Amazon Fire is a line of smart devices manufactured for Seattle, Washington-based retailer Amazon.com Inc.
Evolutionary successors to Amazon's Kindle line of e-readers, the Fire family runs a system that was loosely based on the open-source code of Android, heavily modified to tie into the company's retail infrastructure. Today known as Fire OS, the system powers nearly all of Amazon's smart hardware—tablets, phones, streaming devices, and smart speakers—and yet it remains compatible with most Android software. Apps and games for these devices are distributed via the Amazon Appstore.
